Looking forward

posted in Website

There's been the odd new game, and the old game recently both contributing to slowing my site progress. But most of all it's still that decision making issue that I have. I'm feeling a desire to put more 'bloggy' type stuff recently, which contradicts to what I originally intended the site to be. I can't help but feel the whole thing would've been better had I just made my original intention in one go!

Which brings me onto the site progress, I've done some back-end progress lately (mostly bot tracking) but nothing visible. I'm still toying with different theme's when I get into a coding mood, and I'm thinking that for the full website (rather than blog) I'll do it all in one go rather than gradual additions... or at least, the larger parts will be in one go. I just don't think it'll fit properly if I do it in small parts slowly pushing the blog to the back.

In a way I'm regretting the categorisation and thinking just mass tagging is a better way forward, but too late for that now! Short term plans for the future that will actually affect visitors instead of just me:

Stuck in a Rut

posted in Website

After creating my to-do list site work progressed fairly swiftly and I was actually feeling pretty pleased with the way it was all going. But lately, I've just ground to a halt. This is a culmination of many things really;

I'm struggling to keep my mind occupied at the moment, whilst coding may be a good way to achieve that the cause/effect of the mood that this has put me in, is that I simply.. don't care enough about anything right now to put the work in.

Diablo 3 has, well, I wouldn't say "got me hooked" but is enveloping my time - for mostly the above reason. I like Diablo and I always have, but the repetitive nature of it (more so than most RPG's, due to the campaign repetition) limits how much I can play it on my own. Most of my solo play at present is to try keep psyche occupied.

Finally, the major issue for site progression instead of just general activities, is that I simply hit a design block. When the coding first began I was intending something on a far grander scale, that of a gaming article/review site with the blog on the side as a "In the mind of the creator" type thing. But I wanted to get it all ready prior to the rapidly approaching beta's and chose to strip it down, resulting in "A Blog". Planning ahead is not my strongest suit, especially given my one real attempt to do so has not had the greatest results (even if not through any planning related issue).

Another step closer

posted in Website

As you can see, I've added categories to the site with little icons - both in the main area and the sidebar, at the moment it's only the blog that's categorised with the gallery as the next step.

How the categories look is one area I'd particularly like feedback on, I'm a bit unsure about the icons but it's all trying to prepare for what's to come later so, adjustments would be better done now.

The general idea is of course to make it easier for people to find all things on one particular game/topic - Tags kind of fill the same purpose, but only really affect the blog and are more detailed if you like.

Having a to-do list and knowing the release of Diablo 3 is just around the corner are certainly helping me to press on with the updates (even if most of this could've been done in a single day...). More to come of course.

Site Updates

posted in Website

For the benefit of the two people who have any interest in the site (maybe it's three by now?) I've been doing some updates.

First off is the To-Do List I've added to both motivate myself to update and to give a sense of where I intend to take this all. The link to the to-do list can be found in the page footer, along with the other 2 main updates I've done outside of bug fixes. An RSS Feed for the blog, and a contact/feedback form.

I'll be adding more to it, I'm working on the next steps already... when I can motivate myself enough to do anything. Hopefully there'll be more done in time for the next GW2 beta weekend, or the release of Diablo 3 which is creeping up fast.

A Sign of the Apocalypse?

posted in Website

This must be a sure sign of the Apocalypse, it's 2012 and after many years of threatening, I have finally done something with my web-space other than throw on a butchered version of phpBB.

I expect the framework is full of holes and will break on every 3rd person to visit but that's what feedback is for right? And I can't get feedback if it doesn't exist!

The intention is a mixture of things, originally I wanted it to be a collection of gaming information like class/quest guides, tools such as a gear/skill calculator, various articles - both opinion and fact (I suspect "Why Warhammer failed" soon!) and a blog of my gaming activities. The latter was actually intended to be the smallest part of it but I prefer to have something running and add to it later - the blog is of course the easiest part!

With the onset of the first Guildwars 2 BWE I've set the blog part of it running so I can talk about my impressions for all 2 people who might potentially read them. I'll try and add more when I am not distracted by the shiny new game or laziness.
